Harness Your Climbing Abilities

Nestled in the outdoor mecca of Northern Idaho, Coeur Climbing is surrounded by a multitude of idyllic climbing crags with a variety of classic routes to test your skills on. But to do so, you’ll first need a harness. Whether you’re a novice just starting to venture up the autobelay or a seasoned vet looking to get some trad mileage in, we’re here to help you learn more about this essential piece of gear.

The Essential Role of a Harness

One of the most important pieces of equipment you’ll bring with you to the crag, a climbing harness is a device fitted around your waist and legs that connects you to the rope. Their design includes one of the most important aspects of climbing safety; the notion of redundancy. Multiple hard points to tie into and the inclusion of double-backed tighteners are just some of the features crafted to keep you safe.

Differences in Style

Similar to how there are varying degrees of styles for climbing, choosing the right harness is dependent on what you’re planning on ascending.

Sport Climbing

For the gym warriors or those seeking to test their skills at Q’emiln Park, a sport climbing harness will suffice perfectly; streamlined and safe, these harnesses will allow those to run laps for endurance training in the gym or master their local outdoor projects.

Multi-Pitch

If you’re looking to escape into the alpine or conquer thousand-foot granite walls, then you’ll be looking for a harness designed for multi-pitch climbing. These harnesses are often slightly lighter, but with extra padding around the straps for those long days sitting in the saddle as you belay your partner up the wall.

Full-Body

The preferred option for young children, full-body harnesses provide additional support and safety for those kids looking to experience the thrilling world of climbing.
