How to Make Friends at the Climbing Gym
We can all feel it sometimes in our day-to-day lives: a certain disconnect as our social lives get harder to keep up with. Work and family can leave little time to find a place to simply be around, somewhere that isn't home and isn't work, where you can show up and be part of something. And in this modern age of remote offices and group chats, hanging out can start to feel like a relic of the past. But here at Coeur Climbing, we don't buy it. We think bonding with people and escaping our contemporary social shackles is easier than ever, as long as you have somewhere to go.
How to Make Friends and Influence Climbers
By its own intrinsic nature, climbing is a physical activity. You're moving your hands, feet, and hips in ways that would make Shakira proud. Because of that, conversation doesn't have to carry every social interaction. A fist bump and a quick "nice send!" (climber-speak for finishing a climb) does more work than small talk huddled around a bar tabletop ever could.
Bouldering is especially social. The walls are shorter, people take turns on the same problems, and there's usually a small crowd on the mat swapping tips on how to solve them. Everyone cheers for each other here at Coeur Climbing, so if you show up to the gym solo, you're never truly alone.
Bringing a friend makes it stick. Here's why climbing works better together →
The Coeur Effect: Community in North Idaho
This is North Idaho. We're not a massive corporate gym. We're a local gym in a community that cares about just that: community. We take pride in embodying that ethos, whether it's the five-minute interaction at the front desk about nothing and everything, waving at your "gym crush" from across the way, or meeting and helping someone who's brand new to the best sport in the world.
There are plenty of ways to plug in beyond the wall, too. Members get free yoga classes and a guest pass every month to bring a friend. Events like FlailFest, our annual climbing competition on November 14, pull the whole community together for a day of cheering (and flailing).

We're proud of the community we've built in Post Falls since opening in 2023, and we couldn't have done it without all of you. Because here at Coeur, it's about belonging somewhere.
Come See for Yourself
So if you're looking for somewhere you can fit in, belong, and simply be, look no further than Coeur Climbing. No experience or gear needed. You can rent shoes and a harness at the front desk, and our staff will help you get started. You'll sign a quick waiver and watch a short orientation video, either at the gym or ahead of time to get climbing sooner. Drop in and see what all the fuss is about for yourself. See you on the wall!
